Duties & Responsibilities
- Daily care, feeding, and monitoring of dairy cattle and livestock
- Operating automated milking, feeding and climate control systems
- Assisting with health checks, vaccinations, and veterinary visits
- Maintaining accurate herd records and performance data
- Calf care and management including weaning and nutrition programmes
- Implementing biosecurity and hygiene protocols
- Supporting precision livestock farming with sensor data monitoring
- Participating in farm tours and educational activities for students
Requirements
- Enrolled student (2nd year+) or recent graduate in Agriculture, Animal Science, Veterinary, or related discipline
- Valid passport with 18+ months remaining validity
- Proficiency in English (Dutch is not required but appreciated)
- Enthusiasm for innovation and technology in farming
- Physical ability to carry out farm duties in all weather conditions
- Strong observational skills for animal health monitoring
- Letter of enrolment or graduation certificate from your institution
- Proof of travel insurance for the duration of your stay

Accommodation
Dutch host farms typically arrange housing either on the farm premises or in nearby shared intern accommodation. The Netherlands has a well-developed system for hosting agricultural students, and most placements include furnished housing at a subsidised or included rate. AJAR confirms all housing details with you before you depart so there are no surprises on arrival.
Visa Assistance
Non-EU/EEA nationals need a Dutch internship or work permit (TWV). The Netherlands has specific agricultural trainee visa pathways. AJAR handles all documentation including host farm sponsorship letters, permit applications with the IND (Dutch Immigration Service), and embassy submission guidance.
